Well did you see the F1 race

ALL VIEWS AND PICTURES are taking from the ITV-F1 WEBSITE.
Hi All did you see the race today, MS started from pit lane, and finnished 5, JB had a badday, WEBBER and RAIKONEN blow it and went out, then DAVID COULTHARD for bed bull took 3 place, hopefully starting the ball rolling for them, BARRICHELLO 4th place leaving ALONSO 1ST place, with MONTOYA 2nd, good race with loads of over taking, safty car came out once, when webbers car blow up and finnished up at the end of pitlane,
Alonso's princely Monaco reward Sunday, 28, May, 2006, 17:06 In the end, it was another commanding victory for Fernando Alonso, the 12th of the Spaniard’s glittering young Formula 1 career and his fourth of the 2006 season. But that doesn’t even begin to tell the story of one of the most breathless Monaco Grands Prix in recent memory. For the first hour of the race, Alonso had to soak up relentless pressure from McLaren sparring partner Kimi Raikkonen, and latterly from an inspired Mark Webber too. For lap after lap Raikkonen shadowed Alonso’s every move, able to respond whenever the Renault driver upped the ante with a new fastest lap. Webber joined the party shortly after the first round of pit stops and kept in touch until losing a chunk of time in the slower traffic that is an occupational hazard around the Monte Carlo streets. The Australian still looked in with a chance of catching the lead pair, however, since he was matching them for raw pace and was due to make his final pit stop later than either of them. So at the two-thirds distance mark we had the tantalising prospect of a three-way battle between three different makes of car all the way to the chequered flag. Alas, within the space of two laps that scenario evaporated along with the engines in the back of Webber’s Williams and Raikkonen’s McLaren. All of a sudden Alonso was gifted a luxurious lead, allowing him to cruise serenely to his first Monaco GP triumph. It hadn’t been like that in the early laps, with Raikkonen tucked under the rear wing of Alonso’s Renault and denying the leader a moment’s relaxation. Alonso, of course, is a master of defence, and did not present Kimi with the slightest chink in his armour. But the tension was palpable as both drivers stormed around the narrow, twisting streets on a knife-edge of adhesion, aware that the slightest error would probably decide the race’s outcome. Webber had lost second place to Raikkonen up the hill on lap two when he left his braking too late at Ste Devote and ran wide at the exit. But the Bridgestone-shod Williams was working a treat round Monaco’s slow hairpins and Webber managed to peg his deficit to the lead pair to around three to four seconds. He sliced another couple of seconds off that by virtue of a later first pit stop than both Raikkonen and Alonso and some blisteringly quick laps in the interim. Following the stops he was able to make further headway as Alonso initially struggled for grip on his latest set of Michelin tyres and his lap times dropped from the 1m16s to the 1m18s range. Indeed, such was the drop-off in Alonso’s pace that the top four concertinaed together and were blanketed by just 1.8s by lap 35, with Juan Pablo Montoya latching himself onto the back of Webber’s Williams. Meanwhile Giancarlo Fisichella was providing some superb entertainment as he fought his way through the field from ninth place on the grid having been relegated four grid spots for a blocking offence in qualifying. Fisi was in uncharacteristically rumbustious form and passed David Coulthard and Jacques Villeneuve at the chicane in successive laps, the first amid plumes of tyre smoke as he j-u-s-t pulled off a banzai lunge under braking without short-cutting the corner. Part of the reason Fisichella was trying so hard was that he was about to go a lap down to team-mate Alonso, but he only bought himself a few laps’ respite as the Spaniard continued his remorseless progress. Webber didn’t find Fisichella such an easy nut to crack, however, and lost touch with Raikkonen as he spent several laps bottled up behind the Italian. Cruelly, that all became academic on lap 49, when Webber came to a smoky halt at the exit of Ste Devote, the result of an exhaust failure on his Williams. With the FW28 stranded in a dangerous location, the safety car had to be deployed, bringing forward the frontrunners’ second round of pit stops. Alonso squeaked back out still ahead of Raikkonen, but hopes of an enthralling shootout between F1’s two hottest young chargers were shattered when Kimi’s McLaren detonated itself in similar fashion to Webber’s Williams. With the MP4-21 parked at Portier, a mile or so from the pits, the Finn decided to forego the long walk back and was soon seen cooling off on his boat in the company of some champagne-drinking friends! All of a sudden the complexion of the race had changed completely, giving Alonso an unmolested run to the chequered flag. Montoya was unable to offer any sort of challenge and settled for second, but third place changed hands several times as various contenders hit trouble. A one-stopping Rubens Barrichello had been a mobile chicane in the early stages as he kept the chasing pack at bay in his fuel-heavy Honda. But the Brazilian was set for his first podium since joining the Japanese team when he broke the pit lane speed limit at his solitary stop and incurred a drive-through penalty. That put Jarno Trulli in the box seat for the final podium place, but the Italian joined the growing list of retirements when his Toyota ground to a halt with no drive just five laps from the end. Into the breach stepped Coulthard to claim Red Bull Racing’s maiden podium finish – just reward for an impressive weekend’s work from the Scot. Barrichello salvaged fourth place, but only by the narrowest of margins as Michael Schumacher closed in on him at a prodigious rate in the closing laps. It will be a long time before the seven-time world champion lives down the ignominy of being found guilty of deliberately staging an incident in Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session. But if that episode was a sad reflection on the flawed nature of his genius, his drive on Sunday was a reminder of his towering ability and, above all, of his unquenchable competitive spirit. Wisely electing to start from the pit lane rather than risk his Ferrari’s front wing on the run to the first corner, Schumacher made light work of his first few targets, passing two cars between Mirabeau and Loews on the opening lap. He then spent a frustrating first stint stuck behind Jenson Button, who had one of the most forgettable afternoons of his career as he struggled with a Honda that hadn’t handled to his liking all weekend. But after expertly passing Button at the chicane on lap 21, Schumacher relaunched his charge and was comfortably the fastest man on the track in the race’s final phase. Fisichella’s heroics ultimately only yielded sixth place, the Italian having lost ground during the safety car period when the timing of his pit stop was compromised by the need to get Alonso in as soon as possible. Nick Heidfeld and Ralf Schumacher took the final two points-paying places after solid if unspectacular drives for BMW and Toyota respectively. Monaco Grand Prix result (provisional) - 78 laps 1. Hi all, i watched the qualifying laps of tomorrows F1 motor racing, WHAT ever happened to JB he went out in the second section, but we'll have to see what he and the team can do, to enable him to get a better finishing place than 14th where he starts from,

Button "extremely frustrated" Saturday, 27, May, 2006, 16:37 Jenson Button ended a disastrous Monaco qualifying session “extremely frustrated” after being knocked out before the Top Ten shoot-out for the first time this season. The British Honda ace’s hopes of racing for a podium on his favourite track now lay in tatters as he faces the prospect of starting 14th on the grid. Jenson just scraped through the first knock-out session and was forced to use a new set of tyres early when he was blocked by traffic. Then in the second session he was struck by mysteriously high levels of understeer, rendering him incapable of fighting for position. "The balance of the car was reasonable on old tyres but I had an unexpected amount of understeer when we switched to new tyres,” he explained. “I was quicker on old tyres than new. “Right now we don't know why so we will have to look at the data but everyone knows that qualifying well here is crucial for the race. “I'm obviously extremely frustrated to be starting so far back here for a race I felt confident we could do well in." Rubens Barrichello on the other hand did make it into the Top Ten shoot out and for the third race running, will start ahead of his Honda team-mate. "It was crazy out there, just like everybody predicted,” he said afterwards. “I was trying very hard to avoid getting in other people's way and they were doing the same for me, which was nice to see. “Seventh is not a bad place to start tomorrow and it should be an incredible race all views given by the F 1 -ITV WEBSITE (CLICK LINK)

Schumacher sent to back of grid Saturday, 27, May, 2006, 23:13 Michael Schumacher has been sent to the back of the grid for Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix. The sensational ruling came at 10.45 on Saturday evening following eight hours of deliberations by FIA-appointed stewards, who found Schumacher guilty of deliberately bringing his Ferrari to a stop in the dying minutes of qualifying. The German’s actions instantly provoked a furore in the paddock, with rival teams and drivers alleging that they were designed to disrupt competitors’ final flying laps and prevent his own pace-setting time from being bettered. After analysing video evidence, data traces supplied by Ferrari and testimonials from key members of the Italian squad, the stewards agreed that Schumacher’s actions were intentional. They therefore deleted all of Schumacher’s qualifying times, relegating him to 22nd and last place on the grid. The decision promotes world championship leader Fernando Alonso to pole position ahead of Williams driver Mark Webber. With Giancarlo Fisichella having already been penalised for impeding David Coulthard's progress during qualifying, the second row will now be filled by McLaren duo Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya. The stewards issued the following statement explaining their verdict: “Having set a fast time in sector one, the driver lost time in sector two, arrived at turn 18 [Rascasse] at a speed little if any different from his previous fastest lap, and braked with such force that his front wheels locked up, requiring the driver to regain control of the car. “The driver ultimately did so without hitting the barrier on the outside of turn 18. “The engine of the car subsequently stalled, with the result that the car partially blocked the track. “Having compared all relevant data, the stewards can find no justifiable reason for the driver to have braked with such undue, excessive and unusual pressure at this part of the circuit, and are therefore left with no alternative but to conclude that the driver deliberately stopped his car on the circuit in the last few minutes of qualifying, at a time at which he had thus far set the fastest lap time. “The stewards accordingly directed that the qualifying times of Michael Schumacher be deleted. “The effect of this is that he will start from the back of the grid.” The stewards said Schumacher’s actions breached Article 112 of F1’s sporting regulations and that therefore their ruling was final and would not be subject to appeal. "Article 112 enables the stewards to delete any number of a driver's qualifying times for a driving infringement, which decision is not susceptible to appeal," they said. Schumacher will share the final row of the grid with Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa, who crashed out of the first knockout qualifying session.
